Mini Gastric Bypass
The Mini Gastric Bypass (MGB) is a variation on the original Bilroth procedure performed for gastric cancer.
It is modified for gastric bypass surgery by virtue of leaving the bottom portion of the stomach within the patient.
A loop of bowel being used to restore continuity, this avoids the necessity to divide the bowel to produce a "Y".
The food enters a substantially smaller stomach and bypasses the first part of the small bowel.
Weight loss and reversal of diabetes is the result of the new pathway taken by food.
